2002 / HAPPENING

Manifest and reclaim the space!

The „Unexpected Geometry” happening was a manifesto about the conservative and exclusionary environment of architecture in Poland, where at the beginning of the 21st century there was no room for innovation and visionaryism, nor was there room for women, especially young women. Through an unexpected (for the organizers) intervention at the Biennale’s inaugural gala, the Sinus 3 collective created a confusion – by running a white string between the gala attendees and interior elements, they marked their separate space. The young women thus manifested their presence, unexpected for many, uncomfortable for many. The outburst and unexpected events were meant to make the „concrete” architectural community reflect, to change their thinking and approach to reality.
Two years earlier we had participated in the Architecture Biennale in Kraków, and this experience showed how lacking a place for young women in architecture was. We reclaimed the space, unexpectedly.
